The Road To Better Data Ownership

Core Beliefs

At Mi4, one of our core beliefs revolves around empowering our users with unparalleled data ownership. We firmly believe that users should have complete control and access to their data, enabling them to make informed decisions, gain insights, and derive value from this digital asset.

The Roadmap

To achieve this goal, we have developed a comprehensive roadmap that I will be talking about in a series of blog posts. Some of these measures are already implemented, and the rest we will be covering as we implement them so you can experience this journey with us in real time.

Step 1 – A Friendly Onramp

RigReports is used to record and report on daily drilling data, well workovers, completions, and other types of well work that costs tens of thousands, and sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars per day.

When we started building RigReports and talking to our beta users, we quickly discovered that one of their main complaints about competing apps was painstaking data entry and a complex UI that required the users to jump through hoops to get their data into the system.

We are very much aware that every minute spent on data entry is a minute taken away from watching the rig or focusing on the job at hand.

Facilitating the data entry process is the first step towards giving our users back these precious minutes.

Firstly, we provide multiple ways to capture data within our app. Whether it’s through manual entry, uploading files, or integrating with other data sources, we offer flexibility to accommodate different user preferences.

For example, users can easily switch between a quick inline data entry mode and a Form-based expanded mode.

By offering various input methods, we aim to reduce the barriers to data entry, allowing users to easily record and organize their information.

Secondly, we went the extra mile to eliminate the need to re-enter the same data more than once. Certain reoccurring data, such as daily costs, can be set to carry-forward and repeat. Other types of data, such as distribution lists, can be cloned or reused to save having to reselect the same entries.

Additionally, we recognize that many users have existing data stored in third-party applications. Migrating this historical data can be a daunting task, but we are regularly taking steps to simplify and improve the process. We have created converters for several popular third-party apps, enabling us to import the client data effortlessly.

By facilitating this transition, we help our clients hold on to their existing data and make the transition experience as painless as possible.

Moreover, we have established automated data capture systems like SCADA and Streaming Data integrations from multiple providers and formats.

These integrations enable real-time data capture and direct integration into RigReports. This eliminates the need for manual data entry, reduces errors, and ensures accurate and up-to-date information.

At the core of our approach is the commitment to providing our users with a seamless and hassle-free experience when it comes to data entry and imports.

The next step on this journey is to ensure all users are looking at a Single Version of the Truth

Stay tuned for the upcoming posts in our roadmap to learn more about how RigReports ensures data access and ownership to every type of user.
